Using snake chain

Just a quick demonstration on using snake chain. Once you get the idea of how to end snake chain off I am sure you will be using it more in your jewellery designs. Used as beading chain you can create some very professional delicate finished pieces.

Here are our basic components for a necklace we have constructed with a finished hand made cubic zirconia riveted pendant.

snake chain crimp

To attach your crimp loop ends simply insert your snake chain and use chain nose pliers to crimp the middle section until the chain is secured.

We then added beads and the crimp tubes working in the opposite direction for the second half of the necklace.

Our beads are what we call floating or captured. Using only one crimp below the beads allows the beads to move between that crimp and the one further up that is holding the higher set of beads in place.

Take the time to measure out your spacing and to secure your crimps centrally on the snake chain before crimping closed with a pair of pliers.

Then it is simply a case of finishing off the open end with the second bead chain crimp end and attaching jump rings and a clasp.
