How to make a stretch bracelet.

bracelet tutorial

Don’t you just love it when you can pop a piece of jewellery on easily, no fussing with clasps, easy on and off.

This project is only going to take you about twenty minutes so if you are going out tonight and could use a new piece of jewellery why not pop something together now and show it off this evening.

Materials:

  • Main beads
  • Complimentary beads
  • Spacers
  • Gossamer floss

    Tools and equipment:

  • Scissors
  • Glue (hot stuff-special T)
  • Needle to suit your beads
  • Ruler
  • You can use a bead board to set your design out or simply lay your beads on a padded surface such as a bead mat.

We decided to go with the faceted aventurine nugget beads as our focus and teamed them up with some 10 mm Labradorite rounds, to finish the design we added some gold filled rondells. You can use absolutely any beads you choose and once you have made your first bracelet there will probably be no stopping you.

The next step is to determine how much gossamer floss you need, for added strength we use a double thread and cut to a single length of 48 cm placing the needle in the middle of the thread. We ended up using a tapestry needle for our beads and the needle you use will depend on personal preference and the size of your bead holes.

Now you simply string your design. As you get past two thirds of the way you can check for size by twisting the two thread ends together tightly, or looping the needle end through the other and trying the bracelet on. This will give you an idea if you have too many or not enough beads threaded on, keep working to the end.

Once you’ve threaded all your beads you can check your length one more time before tying off completely. Tie an over hand knot, and pop over your EZ bracelet sizer or the wrist that will be wearing it. It is handy to have an extra pair of hands at this time especially if you are the said wrist.
We kept this bracelet just a tad tight so it would sit the wrist snugly but some people do like their bracelets to dangle a little and drape their hand.
While you still have that extra pair of hands tie a second over hand knot or the knot of your choice and dab a little glue keeping the beads away from the knot during this time. We use Special T hot stuff, this is a quality super glue and our choice for securing knots.

Wait the appropriate time for your glue to dry and then snip your gossamer floss tails away leaving only a small amount of thread to be coaxed into a bead hole and hidden from view. As our gemstone beads had small holes we ensured that we would end our design with a spacer so that the knot could be concealed.

You now have a finished bracelet almost as quick and easy to make as the matching earrings we are sure you are going to knock up before you go out the door.
