interchangeable necklace set

Interchangeable necklace.

I was recently making a gift for a friend and couldn’t decide on what colours I wanted to use. I had a palate of colours my friend loves but I just couldn’t cull it down so I decided to try something a little different, an interchangeable necklace ensemble where my friend could decide on three different looks, depending on the occasion and her outfit.

We will assume that you already know the basics of stringing, connecting clasps and making loops. If you are unsure please check out our previous articles and tutorials.

interchangeable necklace findings

The principle behind this interchangeable necklace is very simple. Instead of having one main necklace that you can add a second to, giving you two options. We have enabled both necklaces to be worn apart as well as together therefor giving us three options.

String your two necklaces anyway you like, it is best to have one longer than the other. Make sure they are complimentary and will sit okay as a multi necklace when joined together.

We ended both ends of each necklace with a twisted closed jump ring. The rear shared joiner was made from chain and parrot clasps, we made sure the clasps were large enough for ease of use and kept the chain length so the clasps remained at the back of the neck.

And here are our three looks.

Soft and feminine, light smoky topaz swarovski bicones combined with fresh water pearls and gold with simple matching earrings.

Understated elegance, turmaline and light peach Swarovski bicones with gold filled links and matching earrings.

The full ensemble  together for when you want the jewellery to outshine the outfit.
My friend was delighted and I was to, now I must get around to making myself a set!

So let your imagination fly as this really is just a template, try more strands and different combinations, go with whatever takes your fancy.
