After months of planning and organisation, the Beaded Link project finally had its reveal at the 2007 Sydney Bead and Gem Show. Show members and volunteers from Beading Forum dot com dot au raised over $2000.00 in raffle ticket sales for the Cancer council of NSW. The Beaded Link Project turned out to be a true community effort not in the least due to the generosity of fellow beaders, which was overwhelming. We could not have done this without the artists who contributed to the Link, and the invaluable support of those who volunteered their time, donated runner up prizes and of course folks who purchased raffle tickets.
First prize, the “Beaded Link”, was a collaborative jewellery piece created by 14 jewellery artists plus a years subscription to Creative Beading magazine and was won by an ecstatic Piera LoSurolo. Second place winner Melissa Wong and third place winner Neva Brown both won baskets comprised of the most amazing items donated by jewellery, lampwork, ceramic and polymer clay artists all around Australia, the haul included magazines, books plus tools. Fourth place winner Helen Kennedy received a lampwork goddess donated by Wendy Bergamin. We are sure these winners are going to be kept very busy beaders for quite some time.
The organisers and volunteers would like to thank all who attended the Sydney Bead & Gem show and supported the fundraiser. They would also like to thank everyone that provided prizes - the beading community is truly something special, full of giving, kind-hearted people. We were still receiving donations on the last day of the show! A special thank you to Desi Rentos for her vision and to Bianca Velder and all the volunteers and contributors who put so many hours of work into making the Beaded Link a reality.
